Favorite Things

Okay, I am having a really hard time with this...my friend Abby tagged me to post about my 5 favorite things, but they have to be material things. If you know me, I have lots of "things" so this post is especially hard. It is making me realize that it may be time for another Spring Cleaning. Here goes...

1. Television - I know this is so cliche, but I LOVE TV. I feel like I don't watch very much, especially having a toddler now, but I do still find time thanks to DVR. I have a degree in broadcasting & have always loved TV & movies all my life - don't think that will ever change.

2. My car stereo - My husband was nice enough to get me a new sound system in my car before I got pregnant, then he joked with me that I wouldn't use it very much with the baby in the car. I actually use it all the time - music is a huge part of my life, and Wyatt has really picked up on it too. Now that his car seat is turned around, I love watching him clap & bop along to tunes. I also love being baby free in the car & just jamming out to my favorite tunes, whether via my iPod hook-up, or a good old fashioned CD :)

3. My watch - Thanks again to Seth (he's the sensible one, thank God) I got a watch for my 30th birthday. I have always been kind of "anti" watch, but ever since having a baby & timing things like breastfeeding, naps, etc it has really come in handy. At this point, I probably would be lost without it

4. Booklight - I like TV, but there is something about getting in bed at night with a book that I just love - well, that & the fact that my husband would not let me have the TV on in bed, or the light. I only read at night when I go to bed, and have a very hard time sleeping without first reading. Seth likes to laugh at me because there are many nights that I read 1 paragraph, then fall asleep with the light on all night. Before I got my current halogen booklight I had the Itty Bitty booklight, which I used to burn my face with every night, but at least that was my signal that I had fallen asleep & it was time to turn it out.

5. Under eye concealer - Okay, so I don't even wear a lot of make-up but 1 week before I had Wyatt I went all out & paid quite a bit for some at Sephora. It has been a complete staple ion my life since having a baby & many sleepless or long nights!

You've got to stand for something

"Mom!? What's the big deal? I stand now, you know. Better not blink, or I'll need the car keys soon"

To eat, or not to eat? That is the question...

...that I will be asking my pediatrician this afternoon. Wyatt is going for his one year appointment today. It seems silly - most mothers probably have a million questions about vaccines, motor skills, development, etc. My biggest question is what is up with my baby eating like an 18 year old boy home from college break. He literally pigs out on everything - he has yet to turn his nose up at a single food item - I kid you not. Even when we are out in public people ask me how I have gotten him to eat so many different foods. I really don't know how I did - his father his pretty picky, and I can be too at times.

I introduced milk yesterday & was really worried what the reaction would be, but alas - like everything else this child puts in his mouth, he loved it! He actually crawled over to the fridge later & slapped the door till I took his cup out!

So, I'll keep you posted on what the doc says. Lucky for us he is a fairly skinny guy, so maybe he has just gotten his Dad's wonderful metabolism.

A Year in the Life

Mother of the Year? Not so fast...

So, I had one of those moments last night where I had to laugh at myself, and then of course post my story on this blog.

Let me start by saying that my newest challenge is keeping Wyatt contained somehow while I make dinner each night. Seth & I have decided that it's easier to eat with Wyatt, and kind of nice to just be done with cooking, cleaning, etc after he goes to bed - leaving us time to just relax. Anywhoo...there I am last night in the kitchen & Wyatt is playing at the fridge. I am just about to pat myself on the back for being able to keep him occupied there for so long, when I notice he is making a very weird sound with his mouth. After closer examination, I realize he has put something into his mouth. Lo & behold, it is magnet. So, I fish it out (probably too big to swallow anyway, I tell myself) and that's when I have a good chuckle. The magnet, which I STILL don't know where this came from, reads "Damn tootin' I've been naughty, now spank my evil butt." I have a good chuckle to myself, thinking about rushing to the ER & having the Dr. fish this one out of Wyatt...I can only imagine the look I would have received.

For now, I continue to scan the house for small items like this, but they always seem to pop up. Let's just say that Seth & I have no worries about Wyatt's vision - he manages to pick every little thing out of the carpet :)

5 More Days as an Infant

Jesus Loves Me

This morning Wyatt & I headed off to our church, Trinity Avenue Presbyterian, for our first day of Vacation Bible School. I have voluteered as a classroom leader this year, and Wyatt played with some kids in the nursery. This is only the second time he has visited the nursery, and the second time he has been with someone other than a family member. We were there from 9-11:30, which meant he would either take a nap there or miss one, but I was willing to take a chance.

We arrived to find that the A/C was out at the church, but not too hot in the building yet. I dropped off Wyatt & he immediatly took off to play with a room full of toys that were new to him, and other kiddo's. I headed off to my classroom filled with about 6 kids ages three-six. I had a lot of fun, and it was a great test of my patience for when Wyatt becomes this age!

I met up with Wyatt again at 11:30. He was stripped down to his onesie, sticky & sweaty & quite fussy. His diaper also looked like it was put on mid-wrestling match - I had to laugh to myself because I have played this game many times lately. He faired very well in the nursery (at one point I peeked in & saw him playing with my car keys) & the babysitter in there said she predicted he would be an engineer someday because he just loved to try to figure out how everything worked. I told her that the same is true at home.

Wyatt will stay home with Dad tomorrow morning to get his nap (he is about to start working on his 3rd hour of this afternoon nap right now). But, I think I'll bring him back on Wednesday - he seems to like socializing with the other kids, and I don't mind wearing him out a bit!

When I Wake

This is Wyatt's latest craze - when I go in to get him in the morning, or from a nap he is doing this & saying "That! That! That!" and pointing at everything in his room. He gets very excited about the lightswitch.

I've heard of dogs being jealous of baby, but really?

The Mother of all Tote Bags

When I ordered the XL boat tote from LL Bean after recent pool visits filled with frustration, who KNEW what I was getting myself into...I can now tote all my pool gear and possibly my child in this monstrous tote!

To nap, or not to nap?

Yes, another week closer to the first birthday & just starting to be presented with the newest baby challenge - giving up the morning nap. I have been told that this can be a very frustrating time in a Mom's life, and I would have to agree. The past two mornings Wyatt has decided that he would like to rest quietly in his crib (no complaints there - just enough time for me to shower), but then wants to get out & play. Trouble is, by the time lunch rolls around we are VERY tired. So, I guess this will just be another adjustment of our daily routine. I think it will take me more getting used to than Wyatt. This morning I laid him down at 9:00, and at about 10:30 he dozed off...which then creates a problem for the afternoon nap. He will be with Nanny & Papa this afternoon though, so maybe he will cooperate & nap as usual. This happens, and then the next day he's back to normal with 2 naps, so we'll see how it goes. Until then, I have to learn how to shower in the evening, or (eeks) get up before him in the morning. Note to self...buy more coffee.

A day for Dad

Happy First Father's Day!

That's what Wyatt & I said to Seth when he arrived home from being out of town yesterday. After a little rest & relaxation (by us & Wyatt) we took Seth upstairs for a slide show that I put together for him - it went over very well! Dad & Wyatt had a run together & then it was steaks & all of Seth's favorite food for a special Father's Day meal. Wyatt ate Filet Mignon as well, and I hope he doesn't turn his nose up at the next kind of beef he eats around here - it won't be Filet buddy :) We didn't get photos, but Wyatt also tried his new teeth out on an ear of corn. He loved it, and of course Seth & I were hysterical laughing as we listened to his little teeth scrape on the cob, and then watched the sheer delight in his eyes when he would get a piece off - oh to be young again!

Finger Painting & Snacking

Here we are trying out finger painting on a hot day this weekend - this actually became more "body painting" than finger painting. As you can see from the painting in the background, Mom did most of the "painting" and then Wyatt just crawled all over the paint, smearing it all over the paper. Then Wyatt decided he wanted to eat these Puffs on his own - might be time for a Snacktrap! Rather than digging his hand into the container each time, he came up with this idea. Pretty smart!

An Apple a Day

Okay, so as my "first birthday resolution" I am going to try to update this blog more often. I have been sending out pictures of Wyatt once a month & while it is fun to update everyone on how he is doing, it has become a day-long task uploading pictures & creating witty comments for each one. My brother Johnny, a realtor, has started his own blog and sort of inspired me to keep mine updated, and hopefully this will become an easier way for everyone to see what Wyatt is up to. Of course my other friends seem to be blogging experts & have these awesome blogs that looks so much cooler than mine. I am sure it will only be a matter of time though before I figure out how to jazz this thing up!

The latest Wyatt news is that it has been so darn hot we have hesitated to even venture out of the house. Yesterday we made our first visit to Pullen Park in Raleigh with Uncle Johnny & enjoyed the swing & the Carousel. We had tickets for the train, but it managed to malfunction before we could ride it - by then we were all pretty hot anyway, so it was a good time to leave. I'll be sure to upload some pics for my next post.

In other news, Dad tried giving Wyatt an apple at breakfast this morning. He examined it for a while, then I took a bite. With a very determined look on his face, Wyatt took the apple from me, and proceeded to attempt to eat it himself. We all had a few laughs & of course had to pull out the camera!

6 1/2 weeks

Wyatt is now 6 1/2 weeks old! Now that I have perfected my one handed typing skills, we are going to try & post on here more often. His latest thing is smiling - he does it more & more everyday, which is a whole lot better than crying! This is my most recent favorite picture!

40 Weeks

Even though Wyatt is already here I had to post the 40 week picture...After I saw this I was afraid to go out in public. No wonder people at the gym had been giving me crazy looks!!!

34 Weeks

34 weeks & counting! This is me at the beach over Memorial Day Weekend. My last trip to the beach before baby, which was a great time. Seth & I were there with his parents, and then Jean joined me for the weekend! It was wonderful weather & we were able to do lots of sunning & relaxing...

30 weeks

It has been about a month since I posted last, and it seems lots has happened! Here I am attending one of my last pre-baby concerts :)

We have been working hard on the nursery & should have the final touches done in the next few weeks, then we can post pictures. My sister has been helping me & has sewn everything for the nursery - curtains, crib skirt, etc - everything is really coming together!

25 weeks

Well, it's hard to believe that we are almost 2/3 of the way through the pregnancy! In just about 2 weeks I will be through the 6th month. Here we are enjoying our "babymoon" in St John. We were there for 9 days!

20 weeks

Here is a 20 week photo - getting bigger! I started my 22nd week yesterday & everything is going well. We are starting to think about names & nursery ideas, but still have lots of work to do.

It's a boy!

We found out this afternoon that we are having a BOY! We couldn't be more excited, and the little guy looks happy & healthy. In the past 2 weeks I have really started feeling him kick, so we know he is a "wildman" already!

17 weeks

Here I am at 17 weeks! Things are progressing well, and we have our next appointment on February 13th where we should find out if we are having a boy or a girl!

Another Ultrasound at 13 1/2 Weeks

We went to the doctor 3 times this week for an ultrasound as part of a screening - we had to go back so many times because the baby just did not want to cooperate & lie the correct way for the tech to take measurements. We didn't mind though, because we got to see our baby a lot!! Yesterday it actually was sucking it's thumb & had the hiccups at the same time. On Wednesday, even Mom got to come to the ultrasound for a little bit & see quite a few antics out of the new baby!! I will put some pictures up soon, but everything is going wonderfully so far. I will be 14 weeks tomorrow!
